창세기 19장 15절, 불복종에 대한 벌과 부적절한 행동으로 가문이 탄생한 스토리

창세기 19장 15절부터는 소돔과 고모라를 탈출한 롯의 가족들과 소알읍에 롯과 두 딸이 남아 대가 끊긴 것을 걱정하여 아비를 만취 상태로 만들고 아이를 만들었다는 얘기가 나옵니다. 이렇게 태어난 자식들은 훗날 이스라엘과 적대적인 비열함을 상징하는 가문의 조상들이 되겠고요. 읽다 보면 아브라함의 조카 롯에 대한 인물 탐구가 더 하고 싶어 집니다. 롯은 좋은 놈이었을까요? 나쁜 놈이었을까요? 

 

 

창세기 19장 소금 기둥이 된 롯의 아내와 딸들의 부적절한 행동을 어떻게 이해해야 할까

창세기 19장 15절부터

창세기 19장 1절~14절 소돔의 동성애 문화에 관하여

 

15. As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, " Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city."

16. But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.

 

lingered: 아쉬운 듯 남아있다. 꾸물거리다. 서성대다. 우물쭈물.

 

17. And as they brought them out, one said, "Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley. Escape to the hills, lest you be swept away."

18. And Lot said to them, " Oh, no, my lords.

19. Behold, your servant has found favour in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die.

20. Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there- is it not a little one?- and my life will be saved!"

21. He said to him, " Behold, I grant you this favour also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.

 

overthrow: 뒤엎다. 끌어내리다. 전복하다. 폐지하다. 바꾸다.

 

22. Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

 

 

 

날이 밝아오기 시작하자 소돔의 멸망 직전 천사들은 롯의 가족에게 서둘러 떠나라고 하였고 우물쭈물하던 롯의 식구들은 그들의 말을 따라 탈출을 하려는 모양입니다. 롯은 일단 그들의 말에 복종은 하겠지만 대신 소알라 지역으로 가게 해달라고 합니다. 천사들은 알았다고 하고 대신 뒤돌아보지 말고 앞만 보고 달리라고 합니다. 이는 창조주가 이들에게 순종과 믿음을 시험한 것뿐 아니라 타락한 도시에 미련을 두지 말라는 의미도 담겨있습니다.

 

 소금 기둥이 된 롯의 아내와 그 의미

 

23. The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar.

24.Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulphur and fire from the Lord out of heaven.

 

 

sulphur: 레몬색, 녹색이 조금 섞인 노란색. 황.

 

 

25. And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

26. But Lot's wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

27. And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the Lord.

28. And he looked down towards Sodom and Gomorrah and towards all the land of the valley, and he looked and, behold, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace.

29. So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.

 

아침이 되자 롯은 소알라에 도착하였고 도망치다 뒤를 돌아 본 롯의 아내는 그 즉시에 소금 기둥이 되고 맙니다. 롯의 아내가 뒤를 돌아본 것을 두고 타락한 도시에 대한 미련 혹은 그리움으로 보고 이에 대한 엄벌로 소금 기둥으로 만들어 놓았는지는 모르겠지만요. 자신이 살던 도시가 유황비가 내리고 화염으로 멸망해 가는 데도 뒤 한 번 돌아보지 못하고 앞만 보고 달리는 것이 실상에서 가능한 일인지 모르겠습니다. 왜, 창조주는 명령에 대한 순종과 복종만 강요하고 과오에 관해서는 반성할 여지를 주지 않는 것일까요? 회개도 지난 시간의 반성에서 비롯된 게 아닌가요? 아무튼, 뛰다가 뒤 돌아봤다고 롯의 아내는 소금 기둥으로 인생이 끝나게 됩니다. 그것이 롯의 아내에게만 주어진 벌이었을까요? 사랑하는 아내가 소금 기둥이 된 사실을 알게 된 롯의 심정과 그녀의 자식들은 어떤 기분이었을까요?  물론 이 부분도 성경에는 명시되어 있지 않습니다.

 

 

 

 롯의 딸들이 저지른  파렴치한 가문의 탄생

 

 

30. Now Lot went up out of Zoar and lived in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to live in Zoar. So he lived in a cave with his two daughters.

 

소알 마을 혹은 성읍에 도착하여 남은 사람이 롯과 롯의 딸 둘 밖에 없었나 봅니다. 앞 구절에 딸과 사위들도 함께 도망친 것으로 알고 있는데 왜 남자 경험이 전혀 없는 두 딸은 아버지를 노린 걸까요.

 

31. And the firstborn said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth.

32. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father."

33. So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father. He did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

 

여하튼, 자손을 번식할 상대가 없음을 걱정한 딸 중 첫째가 먼저 아버지를 술취하게 하여 임신에 성공합니다. 술 취한 아버지가 무슨 정신으로 가능했을까도 의아하지만 이런 말도 안 되는 상황이 실제로 일어났다는 게 더 기가 막힙니다.

 

34. The next day, the firstborn said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine tonight also. Then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father."

35. So they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down she arose.

36. Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father.

 

다음 날은 둘째가 그리 하여서 이 자매는 임신에 성공합니다. 너무 께름칙하고 소름끼치는 구절이 아닐 수 없습니다.

 

 

37. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day.

38. The younger also bore a son and called his name Ben-ammi. He is the father of the Ammonites to this day.

 

그리하여 첫째는 모압 가문의 자손 모압을 낳았고 둘째는 벤아미를 낳았습니다. 그렇게 모압 가문의 조상과 암몬 가문의 조상이 탄생합니다. 물론 이들은 이스라엘과 적대적인 관계로 창조주가 좋아하지 않는 부류입니다. 이 두 가문의 혈통이 좋지 못하다는 것을 시사하기 위해 그런 끔찍한 에피소드를 만들어 놓았는지도 모르겠지만요. 어쨌거나 황당합니다. 뒤 돌아본 엄마는 무슨 죄이며, 이러려고 엄마를 소금 기둥으로 만들었나 싶기도 하고요.

 

 

 

 

성경이 얼마나 모순적인 경전인지 읽으면 읽을수록 깨닫게 되는 것이 모든 금지하고, 나쁜 짓은 못하게 하면서 창조주를 믿으면 다 용서합니다. 이렇게 이기적인 종교가 또 어디있나 싶을 정도입니다. 이웃의 재산을 탐하지 말라, 간음하지 말라 어쩌고저쩌고 하는데 다 지들은 그렇게 합니다. 기가 막힙니다.

 

창세기 18장 소돔과 고모라 멸망 직전 분위기 

 

 

 성경공부하는 사람들은 이 구절을 어떻게 받아들일까?

창세기 편 절반도 안 읽은 것 같은데 모순에 황당하기 짝이 없는 내용이 많이 나옵니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 많은 기독교인들은 성경공부를 한답시고 모여서 공부하고 기도하는 것 같은데요. 이런 에피소드가 나오면 어떻게 해석하고 받아들이는지도 궁금합니다. 그냥 스킵하고 부정하는 걸까요?  아무튼, 창세기 19장 30절부터는 매우 위험하고 부적절한 내용이 나옵니다. 현존하는 사이비 목사 등이 이런 구절에만 꽂혀서 자신의 행위를 합리화하고 만행을 저지르고 있는가 아닌가 싶기도 한데요. 이런 것에 농락 당하고 현혹되길 없길 바랄 뿐입니다. 성경은 신앙으로 참고하고 정통 교리에 입각한 자신의 심신 수양용으로만 삼아야지 목사의 말만 믿거나 목사를 신봉하고 자칭 교주라고 하는 이를 따르는 어리석은 행위는 결코 해서는 안 된다고 봅니다. 무신론자가 되라고 하는 것이 아닌 자신이 믿고 섬기는 종교에 맹목적으로 헌신하지 말고 먼저 자신의 삶부터 돌아보는 게 중요하다고 봅니다.
