아브라함의 죽음과 레베카의 임신 과정(창세기 25장 1절에서 23절)

창세기 25장 1절에서 23절은 아브라함의 계보와 그의 아들 이스마엘의 가계, 그리고 이삭과 레베카가 어렵게 임신하고 쌍둥이를 임신한 내용이 나오는 구절입니다. 다음 구절이 더 흥미진진하긴 하지만 밑밥은 필요한 법이니까요.

사라의 죽음 후 게두라를 아내로 맞이한 아브라함

 

 

 

1. Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah.

2. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

3. Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummin.

4. The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

 

 

고대 시대 가부장적인 분위기를 어찌 받아들여야 할지 모르겠습니다. 이복동생 사라를 아내로 맞고 나이차가 적어도 70살 넘게 나는 여종 하갈은 당시 14살 나이에 이스마엘을 낳았습니다. 그리고 사라의 죽음 뒤 그 늙은 노인네가 무슨 욕심이 있다고 게두라를 아내로 맞습니다. 게두라는 여섯 아이를 낳았는데 모르긴 해도 젊고 예쁜 여자를 아내로 삼지 않았나 싶습니다. 이런 걸 보면 사이비 목사 등이 오호라 하면서 세상 난봉꾼으로 살게 되는 이유가 되어주지 않을까 염려됩니다.

창세기 24장 레베카를 데리고 오다

 

 아브라함의 모든 유산은 이삭에게 선물은 후처 자식들에게

 

 

 

5. Abraham gave all he had to Isaac.

6. But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still living he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward to the east country.

 

아브라함은 뒤늦게 자식 낳는 재미를 본 것인지 이삭 이후에도 6명의 아이를 만들어 놓습니다. 그리고서는 거의 모든 재산을 이삭에게 물려주고 게두라 자식들에겐 유산이 아닌 선물을 줍니다. 무슨 선물을 주었는지는 모르겠으나 선물을 주고 동쪽으로 보내 버렸다고 합니다. 옛다 이거나 받고 동쪽에 가서 살아라, 그런 걸까요? 이삭은 아브라함의 뒤를 이어 큰 일을 할 장자이기에 세상 소중히 다룬 티가 나는군요.

7.  These are the days of the years of Abraham's life, 175 years.

8. Abraham breathed his last and died in a good lod age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.

 

 

아브라함은 무려 175세까지 살다가 호상으로 하나님 곁으로 가게 됩니다. 노아의 방주 이후 창조주께서 인간의 목숨을 120세로 제한한 것에 비해 아브라함은 55년이나 보너스 생을 살다 간 것입니다.

 

9. Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of   Zohar the Hittite, east of Mamre, 

10. the field that Anraham purchased from the Hittites. There Abraham was buried, with Sarah his wife.

 

그리고 아브라함은 사라가 있는 막벨라 동굴 현재 페트리아크 동굴에 안치됩니다.

 

 

 

 이삭이 머문 곳 브엘라해로이

 

11. After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac his son. And Isaac settled at Beer-lahai-roi.

 

브엘라해로이는 하갈이 사라의 구박을 피해 도망치던 장소입니다. 그곳에서 하갈은 천사를 통해 하나님을 경험한 의미있는 우물가였습니다. 그래서인지 그곳은 신의 개입과 인간의 괴로움을 보고 들은 인식을 상징하는 장소로 의미가 있다고 봅니다. 그래서 이 장소는 하나님의 존재와 인식을 은유하는 의미로 사용되며 유대인과 기독교인들은 억압받고 소외된 모든 이들을 위한 하나님의 연민과 보호의 상징으로 여기는 곳입니다. 아브라함이 죽은 후 이삭은 바로 이 브엘라해로이 근처에 거처를 정하게 됩니다.

 

 그리고 이스마엘의 후손들

12. These are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's servant, bore to Abraham.

13. These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, named in the order of their birth: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael; and Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

14. Mishma, Dumah, Massa,

15. Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.

16. These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their villages and by their encampments, twelve princes according to their tribes.

 

아브라함과 이집트 출신 사라의 여종 하갈 사이에서 낳은 이스마엘의 후손들 족보 나열이 나온 구절이고요.

 

17. (These are the years of the life of Ishmael: 137 years. He breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.)

18. They settled from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt in the direction of Assyria. He settled over against all his kinsmen.

 

그렇게 아랍족의 조상 이스마엘은 137세까지 살다가 갔다고 합니다.

 

 

 늦장가에 불임에 임신에 이삭 부부의 속사정

 

 

 

19. These are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham fathered Isaac,

20. and Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daugther of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.

 

먼저 놀라운 사실은 이삭이 마흔 살에 장가를 든 것입니다. 한국 같으면 그 시절 40세면 손주를 보고도 남을 나이인데 중동 지방은 진짜 외계인 혼종인 것인지 부모도 100세가 넘어 아들을 낳더니만 아들은 40세에 결혼을 하다니요. 그리고 그가 맞은 아내는 거의 소녀에 가까운 처녀였던 것으로 보아 적어도 스무 살 이상은 차이가 났을 것 같은데 말입니다. 암튼 마음에 안 드네요.

 

21. And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren. And the Lord granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

 

barren: 불모의, 메마른, 임신 못하는, 열매를 맺지 않는.

 

 

22. The children struggled together within her, and she said, " If it is thus, why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of the Lord.

 

결혼 후 레베카는 오랫동안 임신하지 못하였나 봅니다. 그래서 이삭이 아내를 위해 기도를 했고 주께서 응답하셔서 레베카가 임신하게 됩니다. 아무래도 수상쩍은 생각이 듭니다. 언제나 그쪽 분들은 뭔가 꿍꿍이가 있을 때면 개입을 하는 경향이 있기 때문입니다. 아담을 먼지로 만들어 내고 이브의 임신도 주의 도움으로 하게 되었고 이번 레베카의 임신도 주께서 특별히 점지한 듯싶습니다.

 

 

 

 

23. And the Lord said to her, " Two nations are in your womb, and two people from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger."

 

아니나 다를까 레베카는 뱃속이 요동을 치는 듯 심상치가 않아서 주께 묻게 됩니다. 그러나 주가 답하길 너의 자궁 속에 두 민족이 뱃속에 있으나 민족이 갈라질 것이고 한 민족이 다른 민족보다 강할 것이요. 나이가 많은 사람이 나이 어린 민족을 섬길 거라고 답하십니다. 다음 구절이 너무 궁금해지는 순간입니다.
