창세기 10장 인류가 흩어져 살기 전 조상 계보를 알리는 장

창세기 10장은 노아의 세 아들의 후손들에 대한 나열이 나옵니다. 이 장에서 중요한 인물로는 함의 아들 님로드와 셈의 아들 펠레그로 보입니다. 아울로 욕단도 인상적인데요. 님로드는 최초의 사냥꾼으로, 펠레그는 지리적 혹은 문화적 분열을 의미하는 시기에 태어난 인물이며 욕단은 상업을 번성한 인물로 생각됩니다.

창세기 10장 1절~5절

 

1. These are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.

2. The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

3. The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphateh, and Togarmah.

4. The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

5. From these the coastland peoples spread in their lands, each with his own language, by their clans, in their nations.

 

창세기 10장 1절부터는 노아의 후손들의 족보에 관한 이야기가 나옵니다. 재미없는 이름들의 나열이라 이걸 다른 나라 사람들이 알아야 할 필요는 없겠죠. 요지는 이들이 세계 곳곳으로 뻗어나가 인종을 퍼뜨리고 번성하였다는 겁니다.

 

 

 

 악명높은 님로드에 관해

 

6. The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.

7. The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

8. Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man.

9. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. Therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord."

 

 

함의 아들 쿠시가 님로드를 낳았는데 님로드는 땅 위에서 태어난 가장 힘센 남자로 묘사되는 듯보입니다. 주 앞에서 힘센 사냥꾼이자 통치자로 묘사한 것과 다르게 실제로 님로드는 악명 높은, 반항의 , 하늘 무서운 줄 모르고 난폭한 성향을 의미하는 걸로 알려졌습니다. 그러니까 성경의 용사와는 사뭇 다른 의미란 거죠. 창조주에게 버림받은 후손들이 용맹한 용사처럼 나오는 게 어쩐지 좀 이상하다 싶었습니다.  그러나 서양에서 님로드는 사냥꾼을 뜻하는 의미로 많이 쓰였던지 전투기라던가, 심지어 엘가의 수수께끼 변주곡 9번에는 님로드란 곡이 있고요. 이 곡은 훗날 타이타닉 희생자를 기리기 위한 추모곡으로 쓰였다고 합니다. 님로드에 대해 좀 더 공부해야겠네요.

 

 

10. The beginning of this kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

11. From that land he went into Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, and 

12. Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city.

13. Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamin, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, 

14. Pathrusim, Casluhim(from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim.

 

 

 

 창세기 10장 15~ 20

 

15. Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth,

16. and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,

17. The Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,

18. the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterwards the clans of the Canaanites dispersed.

19. And the territory of the Canaanites extended from Sidon in the direction of Gerar as far as Gaza, and in the direction of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

20. These are the sons of Ham, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations.

 

창세기 10장 6절부터 20절까지는 함의 후손들이 나열되고 이는 아프리카 및 중동 사람과 지역과 연관이 있어 보입니다. 

 

 벨렉과 욕단

 

21. To Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japhete, children were born.

22. The sons of Shem: Elan, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.

23. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.

24. Arpachshad fathered Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber.

25. To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother's name was Joktan.

 

에벨이 두 아들을 낳았는데 이때 세상이 갈라져서 한 아들의 이름을 펠레그 혹은 벨렉이라고 지었고 다른 아이는 욕단이라고 지었다고 하는데요. 여기서 세상이 갈라졌다는 의미가 지형적으로 갈라졌는지 언어, 문화적으로 갈라졌다는 것인지는 알 수 없습니다. 

 

 

 

26. Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 

27. Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 

28. Obal, Abimael, Sheba,

29. Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.

30. The terriory in which they lived extended from Mesha in the direction of Sephar to the hill country of the east.

31. These are the sons of Shem, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations.

 

창세기 21절에서 31절까지는 셈의 후손들인 에베르 그리고 벨렉, 욕탄, 테라 등이 나열되어 있습니다. 이 이름들은 히브리인들을 포함한 중동 사람들과 연관이 있어 보입니다. 

 

 

32. These are the clans of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, in their nations, and from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after flood.

 

이처럼 홍수 이후 노아의 자손들이 뿔뿔이 흩어져 산 족보로 10장은 끝났습니다.
