창세기 11장 인간의 단결을 훼방놓은 창조주?

창세기 11장은 인간들이 단결하여 바벨탑을 쌓는 과정을 지켜보고 그것이 인간이 신의 말을 듣지 않을 거라고 생각하여 언어를 혼란스럽게 만들기로 하면서 탑을 채 다 쌓지 못하게 합니다. 그리고 아브라함이 탄생하기까지 셈의 세대에 관해 서술하고 있습니다. 

 

 

바벨탑과 언어 파괴자 창조주

 

 

창세기 11장

 

1. Now the whole earth had one language and the same words.

2.And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.

3.And they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly." And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.

 

모두가 같은 언어를 사용하고 있을 때 사람들은 동쪽으로 이동하여 시나르 땅에 정착하게 됩니다. 여기서 구체적으로 어떤 사람을 의미하는 지는 모르겠습니다. 아무래도 함족의 후예들이 아닌가 합니다. 림로드 혹은 니므롯이 바벨탑을 건설한 인물로 나오니 말입니다. 아무튼 이들은 단단한 돌을 만들기 위해 벽돌을 불에 태우자고 하는데요. 내구성을 강화하기 위해 일종의 주조 과정을 설명한 것 같습니다.

 

 

 

 

4.Then they said, " Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth."

 

lest: ~하지 않게, ~하면 안되니까.

 

4절도 만든 벽돌로 탑을 쌓아 자신들의 이름을 드높이고 똘똘 뭉치자는 내용의 구절입니다. 인간이 창조주만을 보고 살아야 하는데 인간이 하나의 언어를 사용하고 자신들끼리 의기투합하면서 열심히 산 것이 무슨 죄인가 싶은데요. 다음 구절을 살펴보겠습니다. 

 

5.And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built.

6. And the Lord said, "Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.

 

인간들이 탑을 쌓은 것을 본 로드는 사람들이 하나가 되어 하나의 언어를 사용하니 못 할 일이 없을 거라고 말합니다. 이 구절만 보면 상당히 긍정적인 내용으로 들리지만 그렇지 않았던 겁니다. 로드는 인간이 단결한 것에 두려움을 느낀 것이죠. 인간들이 모여 힘이 세진 것을 경계하고 있던 겁니다. 

 

 단결을 방해한 창조주

 

 

 

7. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech.

 

그래서 로드는 내려가서 그들의 언어를 혼란스럽게 하자고 합니다. 대체 왜 그런 걸까요? 그리고 창조주는 홀로가 아닌 우리 내려가자,라고 합니다. 이것은 마치 하늘 위 비행선 같은 데서 인간의 행동을 관찰하고 있다가 인간들의 힘이 세지는 것을 견제하고 무력화하기 위해 전선을 흩뜨려 뜨리기 위해 일행을 데리고 내려간 것처럼 연상되는 부분입니다. 아직 이렇다 할 잘못을 저지르지도 않고 의기투합해서 성을 쌓은 게 큰 죄가 된다면 현대인은 다 죽어 마땅해 보입니다.

 

8. So the Lord dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.

9.Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth. And from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of all the earth.

 

그래서 로드는 세상에 내려와 언어를 혼란스럽게 만들어 놓습니다. 탑의 이름을 바벨이라 한 것도 히브리어로 섞다 혼란하다는 의미가 담겨 있다고 합니다.

10. These are the generations of Shem. When Shem was 100 years old, he fathered Arpachshad two years after the flood.

11. And Shem lived after he fathered Arpachshad for  500 years and had other sons and daughters.

12. When Arpachshad had lived for 35 years, he fathered Shelah.

13. And Arpachshad lived after he fathered Shelah for 403 years and had other sons and daughters.

 

셈의 아들 아르박삿은 한국어로 유유자적이란 뜻이라고 합니다. bc 2103년에 태어나 bc 1665년에 사망하였고 케이넌과 케세드 그리고 살라를 낳았습니다. 

 

14. When Shelah had lived for 30 years, he fathered Eber.

15. And Shelah lived after he fathered Eber for 403 years and had other sons and daughters.

 

  아브라함이 탄생하기까지

16.When Eber had lived for 34 years, he fathered Peleg.

17. And Eber lived after he fathered Peleg for 430 years and had other sons and daughters.

 

18. When Peleg had lived for 30 years, he fathered Reu.

19.And Peleg lived after he fathered Reu for 209 years and had other sons and daughters.

20. When Reu had lived for 32 years, he fathered Serug.

21. And Reu lived after he fathered Serug for 207 years and had other sons and daughters.

22. When Serug had lived for 30 years, he fathered Nahor.

23. And Serug lived after he fathered Nahor for 200 years and had other sons and daughters.

24. When Nahor had lived for 29 years, he fathered Terah.

25. And Nahor lived after he fathered Terah for 119 years and had other sons and daughters.

26. When Terah had lived for 70 years, he fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
