창세기 13장 조카 롯과 결별한 아브라함

창세기 13장은 조카 롯이 돈 좀 벌었다고 의기양양해져서 아브라함이 니 갈길을 가라고 하고 롯은 옛 소돔과 고모라 난리가 있던 터가 하나님이 내린 축복의 땅이라 생각해서 동쪽으로 길을 떠납니다. 롯이 떠나고 하나님은 아브라함에게 땅이며 자손이며 무수히 많은 복을 약속하였고 아브라함은 감사의 제를 올리는 내용입니다.

 

 

너무 많은 부를 축적한 아브라함과 롯

 

창세기 13장 1절부터 6절의 내용은 아브라함과 조카 롯이 금과 은은 물론 가축까지 너무 많은 부를 축적해서 땅에서 수용할 수 없다고 합니다.

 

창세기 13장

 

1. So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb.

2.Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

3. And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel to the place where his tent had been at the beginning between Bethel and Ai,

4. to the place where he had made an altar at the first. And there Abram called upon the name of the Lord.

5. And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents, 

6. so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together, for their possions were so great that they could not dwell together,

 

그런데 궁금한 점은 대체 무슨 일로 그 많은 돈을 번 것일까요? 물론 아브라함은 우르의 상류층이었고 이미 막대한 재산을 가지고 여행을 시작했던 걸로 알고 있습니다. 파라오 왕에게서 받은 재물도 적지 않을 테고요. 그런데 조카 롯을 비롯하여 이들은 점점 더 많은 부를 쟁취한 것으로 나오는데요. 여기서 의미심장한 것은 많은 가축과 재산을 감당하기에 땅이 적다는 일종의 구실입니다. 아마도 그들이 점유하고 있던 영유지 같은 곳을 의미한 것 같은데요.

 

 

 

 

애초부터 아브라함은 보부상일을 하기 위해 가족 경영으로다 먼 거리 교역을 나선 게 아닌가 싶고 그러다 축복의 땅 가나안을 발견하고 정착 의지를 굳힌 게 아닌가 싶습니다.

7. and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land.

 

strife: 투쟁, 경쟁, 다툼

herdsmen: 목동, 목자, 소치는 사람, 소떼의 소유자.

 

그렇게 아브라함과 롯의 목동들간의 분쟁이 시작되었고 그 땅에는 가나안 사람과 블리셋 사람들이 거주하고 있었습니다. 브리셋은 시골 사람, 돌담이 없는 마을 사람이라는 뜻으로 아무래도 그곳 토착민 혹은 반유목민 정도로 짐작됩니다. 

 

8. Then Abram said to Lot, "Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen.

9. Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I  will go to the left."

 

여하튼, 분쟁이 시작되자 아브라함이 말합니다. 온 땅이 네 앞에 있는데 뭘 그리 싸우냐. 이쯤에서 분쟁을 끝내고 니가네가 왼쪽으로 가면 내가 왼쪽으로 가고 네가 오른쪽으로 가면 내가 왼쪽으로 가겠다고 합니다. 이 부분은 아브라함의 지혜와 리더십 그리고 물질적 소유보다 관계와 가치를 우선시하는 대목이라고 해석을 하고 있는데요. 그렇게 깊은 뜻이 있는 것처럼 보이진 않습니다. 그냥 조카를 포용하기보다는 니 갈길을 알아서 가라, 하면서 손절한 것처럼 보이기 때문입니다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

10. And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar.(This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)

 

11. So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other.

12. Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

 

그래서 롯이 주변을 둘러보니소알(zoar)쪽 조단 골짜기 한국식으로 요단강 평원 전체에 이집트 땅처럼 물이 잘 흐르고 있다는 것을 보게 됩니다. 소돔과 고모라를 멸하시기 전의 지형을 의미하는 것 같습니다. 그래서 롯은 동쪽으로 갈 길을 정합니다. 아무래도 그쪽이 하나님이 정한 축복의 땅이라고 생각했던 모양입니다.

 

 복을 주고 또 주고 자꾸만 아브라함에게 복만 주는 하나님

 

 

 

13. Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.

14. The Lord said to Albram, after Lot had separated from him, "Lift up your eyes and look from the place where youare, northwards and southwards and eastwards and westwards,

15. for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that offspring also can be counted.

 

wicked: 사악한, 악한, 부도덕한.

 

자기 욕심을 채우겠다고 떠난 롯은 누가봐도 버림받을 각이었고 하나님은 아브라함에게 또 한 번 축복을 내립니다. 확신이 없는 것은 아브라함보다 창조주 하나님이 아니었을까 싶을 정도로 거듭 복을 주고 안심을 시키는 창조주의 의도를 알다가도 모르겠습니다.

16. I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted.

17. Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you."

18. So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.

 

창조주와 아브라함의 주고받는 케미가 상당해 보이는 구절입니다. 창조주는 아브라함에게 이 땅에 너의 자손들을 먼지처럼 많게 번성하게 할 것이라고 축복하고 아브라함은 보답이라도 하듯 마므레 상수리나무 근처에서 제단을 쌓고 감사의 제를 올립니다. 그저 하나님 말만 잘 들으면 잘 먹고 잘 살 수 있다는 내용입니다.
